Canada fell 2–1 in overtime to the United States — Jack Hughes scoring the golden goal at 1:41 of 3-on-3. McDavid wore the captain's C for the semifinal and final after Crosby's injury. Named Tournament MVP, Best Forward, and to the Olympic All-Star Team.

U18 Worlds — The Youngest

At 16, the youngest player in the tournament. Led the tournament in scoring with 14 points (8G, 6A) in 7 games. Hat trick in the quarterfinal vs. Czech Republic. Tournament MVP and Best Forward. Canada defeated USA 3–2 for gold.

2015

World Juniors — Coming Home

The only 17-year-old on a team of 19-year-olds. Alternate captain. 11 points (3G, 8A), leading all players with 8 assists. Breakaway five-hole winner in the final. Canada beat Russia 5–4. Media All-Star Team.

2016

World Championship — Triple Crown

At 19, in his first senior international tournament, 9 points in 10 games. Game-winning goal in the first period of the championship game as Canada shut out Finland 2–0. Became the youngest player ever to win gold at the U18, U20, and World Championship levels.

2018

Worlds Captain

As Team Canada captain, 17 points (5G, 12A) in 10 games — 3rd in tournament scoring. Canada finished 4th.

2025

4 Nations Face-Off — The Golden Goal

Alternate captain alongside Cale Makar (Crosby wore the C). In the championship game at TD Garden, McDavid scored the overtime winner at 8:18, off a Mitch Marner feed, roofing it high glove-side past Connor Hellebuyck to beat USA 3–2. 5 points (3G, 2A) in 4 games. Player of the Game in the final.
